Kocaman returns as Fenerbahce boss

Aykut Kocaman has returned to Fenerbahce and signed a two-year contract to begin a second stint as head coach.

The 52-year-old replaces Dick Advocaat, who took charge of Netherlands national team after Fener finished third in the league in his single year at the helm.

Kocaman spent three years in charge of Fener between 2010 and 2013, winning the Super Lig in his first season and taking the club to the Europa League semi-finals in his last, as well as winning two Turkish Cups.

He also spent a prolific eight-year spell with Fenerbahce as a player between 1988 and 1996.

Kocaman took over a year out of the game after resigning from his first spell in charge before returning to the game with Konyaspor in October 2014.

He led Konyaspor to their first-e…

´I knew it could be good´ – Sabitzer proud after earning Austria top spot

Marcel Sabitzer is proud of not only his winning goal, but also the strength Austria showed in their 3-2 victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Ralf Rangnick s side were drawn into a group including pre-tournament favourites France, the Netherlands and Poland, and few expected them to come out on top.

However, after narrowly losing their opening to Les Bleus, Austria beat Poland 3-1 before Sabitzer struck the winner – his first goal at the European Championships – against the Netherlands to see them finish first in Group D.

With a last-16 tie against one of the best third-place teams still to come, Sabitzer is confident in Austria s togetherness.

I got the ball deep, I looked up to see if someone was free in the middle, but I got the impression tha…

Zidane has become the best coach in the world in a short space of time – Perez

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez feels Zinedine Zidane has developed into the best coach in the world since taking charge of the Santiago Bernabeu side.

Zidane replaced Rafael Benitez as the man in charge at Madrid in January 2016 and has guided them to back-to-back Champions League titles, while also winning LaLiga for the first time since 2011-12.

Perez is impressed with Zidane s development over the past 18 months and is optimistic about Madrid s future.

Real Madrid have once again done something that nobody else has achieved to date, Perez said at a ceremony held in the presidential box at the Bernabeu after he assumed his position of re-elected Madrid president.

We have built a legendary team featuring the best international and Spanish playe…

West Brom tie Dawson to new contract

Craig Dawson has committed his future to Premier League club West Brom by signing a new contract.

Versatile defender Dawson has agreed a three-year deal on improved terms, with his old contract having been set to expire at the end of the season.

Dawson spent most of last season playing at right-back for Tony Pulis side, but, with reported Manchester City target Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley missing the start of the season through injury, the 27-year-old has formed a strong partnership in central defence with Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi.

The Baggies have kept back-to-back clean sheets in wins over Bournemouth and Burnley and Dawson is keen to maintain the team s perfect early season record.

I ve always felt very settled here and I m delighted to …

Liverpool in for Hummels

Liverpool are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, .

The potential switch would see the centre-back, who has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, be reunited with former manager Jurgen Klopp, who took charge at Anfield two months ago.

Hummels moved to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in January 2008 and has since racked up two hundred and seventy-one appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty-three times.

Internationally, he has been capped forty-four times for Germany, scoring four times with two of those goals coming at last summer’s World Cup finals, where Joachim Low’s side triumphed.

Klopp will look to bolster his squad when the transfer window reopens next month, with a defender likely to be …

Paris Saint-Germain 2 Napoli 2: Di Maria rescues a point for PSG

Angel Di Maria s brilliant stoppage-time effort rescued a point for Paris Saint-Germain in a 2-2 draw with Napoli in Champions League Group C.

It had looked like PSG would suffer their first home loss in 20 Champions League group stage games when Dries Mertens put Napoli 2-1 ahead with 13 minutes remaining.

But Argentina international Di Maria whipped a terrific finish past David Ospina in the 93rd minute to deny Carlo Ancelotti victory against his former club.

PSG came into the game having never beaten Italian opposition in Europe s premier club competition and Lorenzo Insigne s first-half effort gave Napoli the lead.

The French side levelled when Mario Rui diverted Thomas Meunier s cross into his own goal but PSG continued to look suspect at the ba…

Kante set for new Chelsea deal?

According to L’Equipe, N’Golo Kante is set to sign a new contract with Chelsea Football Club. The midfielder is easily one of the best players not only at Stamford Bridge but in the Premier League as a whole, and it’s not surprising to see that the Blues are interested in tying him down to a more long term deal.

Paris Saint-Germain have made no secret of the fact that they’d also be interested in signing Kante, who made the jump over from Leicester City in 2016. The 27 year old won back to back Premier League titles with the two clubs, and given his age and his position in the middle of the park, it certainly seems as if he has a long time left at the top level in the beautiful game.

Kante has been a professional footballer since back in 2012 with Boulogne, maki…

Messi hails Barcelona team-mates after European Golden Shoe triumph

Lionel Messi paid tribute to his Barcelona team-mates after collecting a fourth European Golden Shoe award.

The Argentina star scored 37 LaLiga goals last season to clinch the honour and move level with Cristiano Ronaldo as a four-time winner, having previously topped Europe s scoring charts in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

But Messi was quick to point out he could not have found the net on such an outstandingly consistent basis without the help of his fellow players at Camp Nou.

I ve always said the individual prizes are won by the team, he said. If the team is doing well then we have the fortune to be able to pick up these awards.

It is true that this prize belongs to everybody. Without them I wouldn t have scored all the goals I did last season. It is for the…

Aguero and De Bruyne in contention for Manchester City v Everton

Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne could make their Manchester City returns when Everton visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Aguero has not featured since City s 2-2 draw with Lyon last month, missing the past four matches in all competitions with an abductor problem.

De Bruyne was named player of the year for the Premier League champions last season but has barely been involved this time around on account of two medial knee ligament injuries.

Pep Guardiola s squad was stretched by a number of fitness issues ahead of Wednesday s 2-1 Champions League win over Hoffenheim but he told a news conference to preview the Everton match that two of his star men might be ready to return.

He did the last two training sessions with the team. He has no pain with his…

Manchester United v CSKA Moscow: Van Gaal demands end to goal drought

Louis van Gaal wants Manchester United to use Tuesday s home Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow as a turning point for their season.

United secured a 1-1 draw in Russia thanks to Anthony Martial s header in their most recent European outing on October 21 but have since recorded three 0-0 draws in a row, results which have seen them lose ground to Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table and exit the League Cup on penalties to Middlesbrough.

With his side again struggling in attack in a stalemate with Crystal Palace on Saturday, Van Gaal wants to see a reaction when the Russian Premier League leaders visit Old Trafford.

When I see their characters, I don t think they have doubts about that quality, Van Gaal said of his attacking pla…
