The 26-year-old joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and went on to make 23 Bundesliga appearances.
However, Stambouli clearly failed to justify the €8.5 million invested in him and latest reports suggest that new head coach Domenico Tedesco does not have the midfielder in his plans for the new season.
